Mood Board

Mood Board is a series of oil paintings I created to capture the escapist nature of self-isolation. Combining music and melancholy, each mood piece is inspired by songs that I personally go to when feeling the need to separate myself. Those suffering from depression or any down mood are often portrayed as wanting to stay inside, sometimes even locked in a room. Mood Board aims to represent those who feel suffocated by four walls and would rather venture out to find a quiet place or take part in an activity that allows them to dissociate. The goal isn’t to avoid outside, instead, it’s to avoid other people, to avoid being perceived. Upon finding that place, the person finally gets that moment to exhale, dropping the weight of internal struggle as well as the forced smile that hides it.
